In 2017, Dark Star Orchestra celebrates 20 years of bringing the Grateful Dead experience to fans around the world. On some nights, the band plays a Dead set list from the past, on others they create unique set lists of their own. They’ve played over 2,700 shows in the US, Europe & the Caribbean, and at different times have had six members of the Grateful Dead join them on stage.
Friday night the band played two sets to fans at Stubb’s Amphitheater in Austin, Texas, recreating the September 23, 1976 Cameron Indoor Stadium show at Duke University, Durham, NC. The set included fan favorites such as Mississippi Half-Step, Help on the Way, Slipknot , Franklin’s Tower, and Eyes of the World.
As a special treat, the Barton Hills Choir, a local Austin youth group, opened the show, singing a selection of Grateful Dead songs a capella, including Beat it on Down the Line and Brokedown Palace.
